There are really two problems that are fueling the obesity epidemic that we are suffering from right now, we eat the wrong foods and we eat too much of them. In developed countries then people don’t really have to worry about where they can get food from, they can get food from pretty much anywhere so it isn’t appreciated when they do get it. Instead of appreciating that we actually have food, then most people just get a huge portion of food and then eat until they can’t eat another thing. I think we have forgotten that eating food is actually the way we power our bodies, now we have turned it into almost a hobby though. The truth is we eat for pretty much any reason, we eat when we’re sad to console ourselves, and when we’re happy to celebrate, or when we are bored to give us something to do, we eat all the time!

By eating so much food then you end up eating far more calories than your body needs, and all the excess ends up as fat instead. Of course some of the diets have cottoned onto the fact we like to eat which is why you see diets like Cheat Your Way Thin which use promises of eating pizza and ice cream while you diet to lure you in and buy it.

The simple way to stop putting on weight and hopefully lose it is to cut down how much we eat, here are some tips to help you out:

Throw away some of your meal: It is really hard to get out of the habit of loading your plate up too much, especially if you have been doing it for years, which is why you need to throw some of what you put on there away until you learn not to add so much. It is hard to say how much food to get rid of as obviously everybody will eat different amounts, but start off with about a quarter of your meal, throw it away before you start eating.

It is important you throw the food away before the meal rather than after because many people find it hard to stop eating until their plate is empty. They feel they are wasting food if they don’t clear their plate which leads them to overeat. By throwing the food away before the meal you can’t be tempted to eat it. Then as time progresses start adding less and less to your plate when you realize that even without 25% of the food on the plate you are still full by the end of it.

Only ever go shopping on a full stomach: I can almost guarantee that if you ever go out shopping for food while you are feeling hungry that you will end up buying a load of junkfood and a lot more food than you actually need. Instead what you need to do is wait until you have had your dinner and then go straight after that, suddenly you won’t want anything other than items on your shopping list. That way not only are you going to be eating less junk but you’ll also be saving money!
